The "New" Business as Usual

I hired a business manager to help me coordinate projects, handle details and most importantly, stay focused on what is most important for my work. This will help keep me from getting distracted and bogged down with minor details that only stress me out.I'm really looking forward to the changes this will bring.

Depressions...

Someone asked me a question today. I heard myself answer them... and I didn't like what I said.
I wrote a really dark poem yesterday.
It feels like a spiral coming on...

Day two...

Day two off of Facebook. Brain starting to function again.
Must... move... legs....

Sunday, September 20, 2009

I've been spending WAY too much time on Facebook.

I think I might try something different... like unplugging altogether.
Maybe doing some yard work...
or GASP - paint something...

Ghost Ship

I've had a life long fascination with tall ships and sail boats. Growing up near the coast there was never a shortage of pictures vessels and tales of wrecks at sea. Ghost stories were never in short supply either.

I'm planning on doing a larger version on canvas soon.

Let me know what you think.

Flight Lessons

I had a dream where I was teaching people to fly. To get started you had to walk up an invisible staircase until you were about 50 feet off the ground. Once you got to the top, all you had to do was jump. It wasn't much of a change since it appeared you were standing in the middle of the sky anyway. What's one more step?
That was the inspiration for this piece.

Sunset at the Sprayground

There's a nice park nearby. It's a great place to take the kids at the end of a long hot day. The kids love the water.

I enjoy the sunsets...

Blue Eye

Here's another one of the "sketches" from the past few weeks. I finished five on paper. That's more than I've gotten done in a long time. I'm going to go for one more then start on a canvas or two, although that may have to wait until we're back from vacation.

I've also been working on some updates to the website too. That will take me a while because I still haven't decided what I want exactly. People have asked for prices, prints, posters, etc. Let me know if you have any requests, I'll see if I can work it in...

Boxes

I finally got pictures of the work I've been doing the last few weeks. I started with black and white paint only (the picture is tinted blue because it was taken at twilight and I kept it because I liked the effect). Using black and white let me focus on brush strokes and composition. It was good exercise. You have to start somewhere....

More coming soon.

Back to it...

I'm slow, but I'm getting there. I gessoed six sheets of paper last week and last night I used the first one. I'm just doing quick studies for now. Kind of like sketching but with paint. The idea is to get some work done without using up any canvas. Since it's been so long since I've painted on a regular basis, I'm going to do a lot of this. If any of them are good I'll put them up here. Otherwise, you'll just have to wait till I die. I'm going to update the website in the coming months too. It's just hard to get back into the routine. It seems weird that I was out of it so long.

Bull Ride Gone Wrong

There is something very wrong with the people of this planet.

In the immortal words of my dear friend who sent this to me, "Good God People." Indeed.

Hi Dad!

This is my crazy son...

Hi Mom!

I guess there's nothing better to do in Arkansas when you're 5.
